I have been trying to focus on getting my Home Automation Control Software ready for prime-time, but have been too busy working on other things. I have been testing the software internally and I hope to have it ready for Beta testing soon!

Version 1 will connect to an HAI controller and offer the usual security, HVAC, lighting, audio control (through HAI OmniPro II) as well as offer widgets for Weather, System Info, Stocks, RSS, Camera Viewer, etc.

Hai!

it looks nice! Are you planning support for Elk M1? Will it be open sourced?

Posted by RonX at October 16, 2007 9:40 AM

Very cool. What are your thoughts about software Mainlobby or CQC, they have already the same functionality

Posted by Danny Mavromatis at October 16, 2007 10:22 AM

Mike,

Support for other controllers will come with time. I’m not planning on releasing it as open source, I’m leaning towards commercial. I feel this route will allow for me to create a much better product long term.

RonX,

I’m familiar with MainLobby and CQC, the reason why I haven’t used them in my house is because of the total package/features. None of those products do exactly what I want in a userfriendly way. To complex and limited.

Hey - looks great! Would you mind listing a schedule of items you’ve got installed? I’m finishing up the building of my house, and have pre-wired as much as possible. I think my first step will be to install the Leviton Vizia-RF units for lighting control.

I’m just not sure what I should use to tie everything together.

Thanks!

Where will I be able to get the software

Posted by Danny Mavromatis at October 23, 2007 9:24 AM

Benny,

hhahah… no, not yet at least.

Ryan,

CQC and Main Lobby are more difficult to setup, I’m focusing on delivering a more “Apple-like” experience. From setup to use.

Great Steve Jobs’ quote:
“It comes from saying no to 1,000 things to make sure we don’t get on the wrong track or try to do too much.”

Another great Steve Jobs quote:

“Don’t let that Mavromatis guy into any of the stores. He is not allowed to buy our products.”

hahahah, nice Davidson, it’s because I unlocked/hacked my iPhone…

Dan,

Don’t know if you mentioned it, but what panels are you using?
Also:
Will your software work on OSX?
Can you interact with it via the internet (AJAX?) from an Iphone/Nokia 700/800 and the like?

I didn’t see you specifically mention controlling video, can I assume it will?

Thanks

TV,

V1 will be a Windows only app, much like Snaplink but more feature rich.

Following version will enable iPhone (web/AJAX), WM6 (native), OSX* (native), etc. This all started with me wanting to have the perfect UI/UX for my system and I think others want one too.

I’ve got all the architecture pretty much done… this include security models, etc. Now, it’s about focusing and releasing something.

* I’m trying to see how hard it will be to port my stuff to OSX… just downloaded XCODE yesterday… :)

I will be releasing more details soon…

Thanks for the reply.

I can’t wait for the release. Any idea where it will fall price-wise? CQC range or MainLobby range? Other?

Danny,

I haven’t started my automation system yet aside from home theater and whole house x10, but I’m willing to be a guinnea pig for the Mac side. If you want to walk me through setting things up I will buy whatever you recommend and buy your software and provide feed back.

Will you have support for Insteon devices? They seem much more robust than x10 and HAI does not support. I have an Omnipro running nearly everything, including my hybrid hydronic heating consisting of in concrete downstairs and forced air off hydronic upstairs from a Canadian company called Hi Velocity. HAI interface is crude at best and could really benefit from Mac like interface. I recognize the Viewsonic touch panels and was a beta tester some time back. They were awfully slow as remote devices.

any update on this?

Danny,
Any update on your Home Automation Control Software? Would really like to use in my new home!!

Posted by Jason at April 21, 2008 9:20 AM

I am currently building a duplex in Edmonton, Alberta and we currently have the foundation poured in.

I am quite interested in the idea of the home automation, even more so with the customization options.

Would be quite interested to figure out how to include electricity usage and water usage as well. Have you looked into this as well ?

Is there any updates on your project ?
Thanks a bunch.

Danny,

Love your blog, have been checking on it here and there. But would like to know more about the specs of your home automation project. Do you have a list of the items that you used. software and what not. There is a lot to learn with home automation and would love to hear a little bit more about the specs you are running.

Thanks
kris
