Energy Inc. has introduced their next generation of whole house energy monitoring, the TED 5000 Series. The system provides all the benefits of the TED 1000 (more here and here and here) series along with a new look and improved functionality. Featuring a sleek handheld display unit and the brand new Gateway component which allows you to view the data directly from a web browser without the need of the display unit. The Gateway component will also allow for easy integration into home automation systems or interfaces like Myro:Home!

JVC Xiview LT-42WX70 – 42″ Monitor Targets DSLR Users

This is an interesting play when it comes to LCD’s. What makes the new JVC Xiview LT-42WX70 42″ 120Hz 1080p LCD TV monitor different is that it targets digital imaging professionals that are using digital SLR cameras, “allowing them for the first time to see the subtle colors, details and textures of their images faithfully reproduced”.

How it does this is by featuring expanded color space capacity encompassing 100 percent of HDTV broadcasting’s (sRGB.904) color space and a coverage rate of 96 percent for Adobe RGB — a color space for still photographs taken on high-definition digital SLR cameras.

The unit is pretty slim and lightweight at just 1-5/8 inches deep and features a stylish black leather-like texture on its slim bezel that also helps to reduce glare. The flat rear panel is completely finished in metallic silver without any visible assembly screws or vents. The JVC LT-42WX70 is available now and is priced at $2,399.95.

Blueline Innovations PowerCost Monitor

Last year I posted about a product called TED 1000, by The Energy Detective. It’s a power monitoring device that saved me $50 the first month of use. Blueline Innovations has released a similar device called the PowerCost Monitor. The PowerCost Monitor is a wireless device rather than wired like the TED and is about the size of a small digital clock which displays realtime power information. The system includes a sensor unit which attaches to the power meter itself.

The PowerCost Monitor sells for $150 which is about the same price as a TED 1000 ($144). I still prefer the TED 1000 because it can be hooked up to a computer or home automation system but don’t let that stop you from purchasing a PowerCost Monitor because whatever we can do to reduce power usage is good for everyone!
