I’m back into R/C Planes (my next one is the Micro-Telemaster). I did find out that getting into electric park flyers requires using Li-Poly batteries that require expensive chargers which seem to only run on 12-volt DC power supplies. Ideally, ones that can go up to 10A, but since my needs are only 2-3 Li-Poly cells, 5A, 12-volt DC power supply works fine. Flying RC planes is a great hobby and as you say the electrics can be very sophisticated these days. I have made a similair power supply to yours for my charger. However I would suggest that you either use a balancer with your charger or an all in one balance charger when you are charging LiPo batteries. This will avoid you under or overcharging the cells of your lipo batttery. This not only prolongs the useful life of your battery but helps avoid the exploding lipo of doom. Check out the videos on the RCGroups forum for some great exploding lipo footage.
