Motorola HDTV Plasma

I don't know when this thing will be released, or if it ever will... but when I saw it, it reminded me of my 22" Apple Cinema display... just bigger. So if anything, just enjoy the photo. I believe this is the Motorola PG H-42 which is a High-definition wide aspect ratio (16:9) 42" screen. The little specs I have found say that it has High brightness, high contrast and wide viewing angle with slim, space-saving design (depth: only 3.4 inch). Unlike most plasmas, this one is fan-less for quiet operation. MSRP is listed at $6000.

More and more people are buying flat-panel displays, but what do you do for audio? Sharp Electronics has announced the availabiltiy of a surround sound audio solution that matches the design and quality of these TVs, the first vertical 1-Bit audio home theater systems that can easily be mounted on a wall or placed on a narrow shelf. Sharp's patented 1-Bit digital amplification technology is paired with a multi-format progressive scan CD/DVD/SACD/DVD-audio player. These models are designed for audio enthusiasts who prefer to choose their own speakers, or already own a high-quality surround sound speaker system. The SD-HX500 and SD-HX600 feature a powerful 100-watt per channel amplifier section and main unit with a unique vertical design that hides the DVD/CD player behind a brushed silver front panel. The vertical orientation of the amplifier section and disc unit means these products are ideal to be placed on a shelf, or wall mounted with the included brackets. The SD-HX600 integrates sophisticated video switching capabilities into the design of the SD-HX500 by adding an audio/video selector system, which houses the inputs away from the main unit for a clean, clutter-free appearance. The stylish amplifier and disc units are made of luxurious anodized aluminum and polished, transparent Plexiglas, while blue LEDs illuminate the sleek side controls. What is the 1-Bit stuff? Sharp says that 1-Bit produces flawless, high-resolution sound, enabling the SD-HX500 and SD-HX600 systems to sample audio signals at an ultra-high speed rate of 5.6 MHz or 128 times faster than a CD. The faster sampling rate ensures that the SD-HX600 and SD-HX500 will produce excellent transient response, providing accurate reproduction of fast, percussive sounds and complex multi-instrumental timbres. Sounds Good! (pun intended)

A Slick & Sexy Media Center

One of the main reasons why I bought a TiVo was because it would fit nicely in my A/V rack. Niveus Media has released the AVX Media Center which measures about the same as a standard A/V component, just over 17 inches wide, and under 4 inches tall. It uses Windows Media Center 2004, which at first I was a little hesitant to like... but now that I use one, I'm actually a fan because of the all the future possibilities, think Portable Media Center than can dock to your MCE, ala iPod. The AVX can be configured, but expect a P4 2.4ghz, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, and a Radeon 9200, with case to run you about $2499, or up to $3179 full loaded with 300GB of HD, a 2.8ghz CPU, 1GB RAM, and A Radeon 9600XT.

Digeo Is In Business

digeo.jpgWOW... Today, Digeo announced a bunch of new products. Starting with ‘Moxi Mate’, a $79 Second-TV Media Center device that enables consumers to enjoy full access to all of their media center features and content (i.e. DVR, VOD, PPV, DVD, music, photos) on a second TV in the home. By deploying the Moxi Mate using existing coaxial cable in the home, cable operators can extend the reach of DVR and digital entertainment services throughout the home at the lowest industry cost. It seems like we will be seeing more of this technology in the coming months. Using the coaxial cable already in your home makes more sense then messing with wireless or CAT5E cabling.

Digeo also announced the availability of Jukebox, Photos, DVD, Games, Ticker and Home Networking for Moxi Media Center providing cable operators with new opportunities to generate revenue and boost loyalty by offering a broader range of digital media and entertainment options to their subscribers. These new Moxi applications run on both the Motorola Broadband Media Center (BMC9000) and the Moxi PowerKEY Media Center.

And with all these additions, you'd think you'd need more space... they thought of that too... with configurations that range from an additional 80 up to 360 GB of storage, Moxi Plus can store over 40 hours of programming at full HD resolution. In addition to providing extra storage for recorded TV content, Moxi Plus provides readers for the most popular digital photography memory card formats, and can be configured with a DVD/CD drive.

I'm glad to see Digeo finally getting there products out there.

VigoBox, Five Channel Recording DVR

Home Theater
May 3, 2004 No Comments

Vigoto has introduced the first DVR-enabled digital set-top box that serves all TV sets in the home through your existing coaxial cable, reducing equipment needs to just one unit per household instead of one set-top box per room. Users can record up to five channels simultaneously from any room in the home, pause a program on one TV set and continue watching it on another. Cable providers can now offer to record select premium channels daily at specified times on an ongoing basis, eliminating the need for subscribers to program their DVRs for regularly viewed shows. With the five channel recording, it's like having your very own TV Network, where you are in control to develop your seletion of content. From what I understand the VigoBox is available now, direct from Vigoto, but I think we (the enduser), need to contact our cable operator. Which means, we may never see this.
